Warrnambool Vineyard
We nurture a small isolated 2 acre block, planted on the banks of the Merri River outside Warrnambool, the most south easterly part of the Henty wine region.
This Vineyard was formerly known as the Rowans Lane vineyard, and was planted in 1998 by the Raffety family. It contains Pinot Noir (Clones 114,115, MV6 and 777), Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.
We have been fortunate to have tendered this vineyard since 2017, leasing it from the current owners.
The Vineyard is influenced by two major features. Firstly the sea, which is within 2km, it contributes sands and shells to the sub soils of the vineyard. Secondly, the Tower Hill volcano which dusted the area with black, friable ashen topsoil's.
Even cool ripening conditions and modest crops make for earthy, powerful Pinot Noirs and crisp clean Pinot Gris and Sav Blanc.
All wines bottled from this vineyard have Platypus artwork on their labels.
